While working through the design of the sunshades for MCL’s new HQ, the team ran into challenges with the geometry/patterning and reached out to Polynomial for help. We dug into the model and quickly realized a few ways we could alter the approach to enhance the functionality and feasibility of the design. 

We did this by first modifying the geometry of the shades. We then worked with other subcontractors to establish and coordinate tolerances so that the shades did not need to be individually verified on site saving time and labor. Then we worked with the structural engineer and precast fabricator to determine how best to connect the shades to the building. Lastly, we designed and fabricated a CNC-machined jigs for the precast sub to use in locating the threaded inserts in their formwork and a separate jig to avoid damage to the powder coat finish during installation.

At the end of the day, we delivered the shades to site and never received a phone call from the installer. Just how we like it!
